Allan Vest is a composer, producer, and musician who was born in Texas and raised in Edmond, Oklahoma. Vest's melodies have been featured in Disney television animated shorts while his original music was put to effective use in several features by award-winning director Bradley Beesley and in writer/director Mickey Reece's 2011 movies Seducers Club and Punch Cowboy.  More recently, he's composed music for Quebec-based filmmaker Erahm Christopher and wrote the theme music for the podcast In Sickness and In Health.

As the primary songwriter and lead vocalist and guitarist/multi-instrumentalist for indie/orchestral pop band Starlight Mints, Vest was known for his surrealistic lyrics and clever arrangements.  The band released four albums:  The Dream that Stuff Was Made Of  (2000, See-Thru Broadcasting Records), Built on Squares (2003, PIAS America Records), Drowaton (2006, Barsuk Records) and Change Remains (2009, Barsuk Records). The Starlight Mints composition “Eyes of the Night” is the theme song for the British supernatural drama Demons.  The band’s music has also been featured in films including Barnyard, Van Wilder 2, and Summercamp!, as well as television shows including Malcolm in the Middle, One Tree Hill and Gossip Girl.

Vest produced the four Starlight Mints albums, with legendary producer Dave Sardy co-producing the critically acclaimed first album. Vest's producer credits also include working with indie bands  including Francine, Feel Spectres, Skating Polly, The Separation and Student Film.  He taught guitar lessons for several years and is an enthusiastic supporter of arts education.  In 2010 he was inducted by Creative Oklahoma as a Creativity Ambassador.

He and his wife Barb (Hendrickson) Vest formed a project called doubleVee in 2012, releasing their 2017 debut album The Moonlit Fables of Jack the Rider, 2019 EP Songs for Birds and Bats, 2022 album Treat Her Strangely and latest release, 2025's EP Periscope at Midnight. Their song "Your Love Is It Real?" can be heard in Episode Seven of Tim Burton's Wednesday series on Netflix.  CDs are available via the doubleVee website.
